PAF undergoing comprehensive modernization and indigenisation, says Air Chief

Chief of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, has said the force is undergoing comprehensive modernization and indigenization to transform into a Next Generation Air Force.

He made these remarks while addressing a ceremony at Air Headquarters marking the seventh anniversary of Operation Swift Retort.

The Air Chief stated that the PAF has recalibrated its operational doctrine and swiftly inducted advanced combat and support capabilities. These include indigenously developed unmanned systems, as well as enhanced electronic warfare, space, and cyber assets—forming what he described as a unique, home-grown multi-domain kill chain.

Emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to peace with dignity, he recalled that seven years ago, an adversary misjudged the country’s resolve by violating its sovereignty under the cover of darkness. He said the PAF’s measured response in broad daylight restored credible deterrence against a numerically superior opponent.

Referring to Marka-e-Haq in May 2025, the Air Chief noted that when Pakistan’s sovereignty was challenged again, the PAF executed full-spectrum, multi-domain operations for the first time. He described the operations as precise and decisive, overwhelming the adversary.

He highlighted the reported downing of advanced platforms, including Rafale, Su-30MKI, Mirage-2000, MiG-29 fighter jets, as well as unmanned aerial systems. He also mentioned deep strikes inside hostile territory and the neutralization of S-400 air defence systems along with their command and control centres.
