PIA approves immediate induction of two wet-lease aircraft to its fleet
The board of directors of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has approved the immediate induction of two aircraft under wet-lease arrangements, marking one of the first major fleet decisions taken by the airline following its privatization.
The two aircraft are expected to join PIA’s fleet in October and will primarily be deployed on European routes, according to officials familiar with the decision. The move is aimed at expanding the airline’s operational capacity and increasing revenues as PIA seeks to strengthen its position in the international aviation market.
Under a wet-lease arrangement, an airline typically leases an aircraft together with its crew, maintenance and insurance services. Such arrangements allow carriers to add capacity relatively quickly without having to purchase aircraft outright or undertake the lengthy process of recruiting and training additional crews.
