Pakistan invites bids for construction of new airport in Sukkur
The Pakistan Airports Authority
(PAA) has invited bids from qualified consultants for the construction of a new
Sukkur Airport, marking a key step in the country’s efforts to modernize its
aviation infrastructure and improve access to underserved regions.
This move follows the federal
government’s approval of three new airport projects in Sukkur, Mirpur (Azad
Kashmir), and Dera Ismail Khan. The Sukkur Airport project is designed to boost
domestic air travel, facilitate regional trade, and accommodate rising
passenger demand in less-developed parts of Pakistan.

A senior official from the Planning
and Development Directorate described the project as a “vital step in
strengthening Pakistan’s aviation network and improving air access to remote
regions of Sindh.”

Airport to be expanded to accommodate more passengers
Strategically, the Sukkur Airport is expected to ease the passenger load on Karachi and Multan airports while enhancing connectivity for business, logistics, and tourism sectors in upper Sindh, a region witnessing steady economic growth.
This initiative aligns with national
priorities to decentralize air traffic and promote economic inclusion across
the country.
