October 20: Air Traffic Controllers Day being celebrated globally
"We guide you home" is the motto of air traffic controllers
worldwide, reflecting their crucial role in ensuring the safety of air travel.
Air traffic control is an essential part of the aviation industry,
responsible for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft through airspace.
This involves monitoring, directing, and guiding planes both on the ground and
in the sky.
Today marks the 'International Day of Air Traffic Controllers,' celebrated
globally, including in Pakistan. Ceremonies are taking place at airports around
the world to honor these dedicated professionals.

In addition to managing takeoffs and landings, Pakistan's air traffic
controllers provide critical technical support and guidance to aircraft
navigating through Pakistani airspace via voice communications.
Asif Rasool, President of the Pakistan Air Traffic Controllers Guild,
emphasizes that controllers work around the clock to ensure a safe flying
experience. They serve in various capacities, including the Flight Information
Centre, Area Approach Control, Control Towers, and as radar personnel across 22
airports in the country, maintaining high standards in flight operations.

These controllers play a vital role in the safe passage of hundreds of
aircraft that take off, land, or transit through Pakistani airspace each day.
Many of these flights are en route to other destinations, and it is the
responsibility of air traffic controllers to provide navigation support for
these aircraft.
