PIA to introduce direct flights to Spain, Italy to expand European network
Pakistan International Airlines
(PIA) will introduce direct flights to Barcelona and Milan in a bid to
strengthen its European network, following directives from Defence Minister
Khawaja Asif.
The move comes in response to
growing travel demand from overseas Pakistanis, particularly in cities with
large expatriate communities. Milan hosts a significant population from
Sialkot, the minister’s home constituency, while Barcelona is also a key hub
for Pakistani nationals.

The announcement follows the recent lifting of a five-year UK ban on Pakistani airlines, which had been imposed in 2020 over pilot licensing concerns. With restrictions removed, PIA is preparing to resume direct UK flights—starting with three weekly Boeing 777 services to Manchester—before restoring routes to London and Birmingham.
PIA said the new European
connections aim to enhance convenience and accessibility for Pakistanis living
abroad while supporting the airline’s broader international growth strategy.
