Canada-based airline granted regulatory approval to operate codeshare with Pakistan and UAE
Canada-based airline Air Transat
has secured regulatory approval to operate codeshare services on flights to
Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
The authorization was granted by the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA), which issued two separate decisions on March 5 allowing the carrier to place its code on scheduled international flights operated with large aircraft to both destinations.

According to the CTA rulings, the airline applied for licences to run codeshare services under existing bilateral arrangements between the Government of Canada and the governments of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
Despite receiving regulatory clearance, Air
Transat has not yet announced plans to begin marketing or selling these routes.
Until now, the airline has directed passengers traveling to the Middle East through its Connectair booking platform, which allows customers to combine Air Transat flights with partner airline services. The system provides connections to around 275 destinations across Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas.

The potential expansion into Pakistan and UAE codeshare services comes at a sensitive time for travel in the region. Recent geopolitical tensions, including strikes involving the United States and Israel on February 28, have triggered unrest and caused disruptions to travel across parts of the Middle East.
