Punjab Airline to start with seven passenger aircraft
In a landmark move, the Punjab government is set
to launch its own commercial airline, marking a significant step in the
province's aviation and economic development. The countdown to the debut of Punjab Airline has officially begun, with
operations slated to kick off in April.
To get things off the ground, the airline will
start with seven passenger aircraft. The initiative is being led by Chief
Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who is pushing to turn this long-held vision of a
provincial airline into a reality. Initially, Punjab Airline will focus on
domestic routes, improving intercity connectivity and building operational
capacity. The airline is expected to operate solely within Pakistan for the
first two years before expanding internationally.

In a symbolic gesture, Punjab’s Chief
Minister’s current official helicopter will be integrated into the airline’s
fleet as its first official aircraft. Once the airline becomes operational, the
Chief Minister plans to travel exclusively on Punjab Airline planes, with no
separate aircraft being purchased for her use. Provincial ministers and
government officials will also rely on the airline for official travel.
A major highlight of the project is its
financial approach. Sources indicate that a comprehensive financial plan is
being developed to ensure that the establishment of Punjab Airline does not place any additional burden on the
provincial budget.
With
aircraft purchases in progress, operational strategies being laid out, and a
clear plan for both domestic and international expansion, Punjab’s aviation
aspirations are quickly becoming a reality.
