CAA Training Institute achieves membership of world's leading body representing airports
Pakistan has marked an important achievement in the aviation sector as the Civil
Aviation Training Institute (CATI) has been granted membership of Airports Council International (ACI), the world’s
leading global body representing airports.
Operating under the Pakistan
Airports Authority, CATI plays a pivotal role in developing skilled human
resources for the country’s aviation industry. Its induction into ACI is widely
seen as international recognition of Pakistan’s growing institutional strength
in aviation training and its adherence to global standards.
Officials noted that CATI is among the few
training institutes in the region where senior civil aviation professionals
from around the world both teach and participate in specialised courses. The
institute currently offers 208 aviation-related training programmes that meet
international benchmarks, spanning operational, technical, safety, regulatory,
and management disciplines.

So far, aviation professionals from more than
48 countries have completed training at CATI, underscoring its expanding
international reach and credibility. These programmes are designed to enhance
technical competence, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency in line
with best global aviation practices.
Under existing regulations, officers and staff
recruited by the Pakistan Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority
are required to undergo mandatory training at CATI. This ensures a uniform and
standardised approach to professional capacity-building across Pakistan’s
aviation institutions.
Airports Council International has a
membership base covering airports in 170 countries, making it the most
influential global platform for airport development, safety, security, and
policy coordination.
CATI’s inclusion in ACI is expected to create
new opportunities for international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and
technical collaboration. Officials said the development aligns with the
government’s broader efforts to bring Pakistan’s aviation sector in line with international
norms.

The
Ministry of Defence, which has been tasked with aviation reforms and capacity
enhancement, views CATI’s ACI membership as a continuation of these
initiatives. Experts believe the recognition will not only strengthen
Pakistan’s aviation training ecosystem but also enhance its global standing,
potentially attracting more international trainees and strategic partnerships
in the future.
