Customs uncover major fraud at Karachi Airport

In a separate incident, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) recently uncovered a massive customs fraud involving high-value electronic goods being smuggled out of Jinnah International Airport without proper declarations or payment of duties.

According to FBR sources, employees of a foreign-based ground-handling company, in collusion with certain importers, allegedly issued fake documentation to remove consignments illegally. The company also served as the custodian of goods at the airport, giving it access to sensitive cargo.

The fraud came to light following intelligence-led enforcement actions by Customs authorities. During a raid, officials intercepted a consignment worth Rs103 million, containing iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, PlayStations, and memory cards, all of which were on the verge of being smuggled without duty payments.
