Karachi Airport set to receive upgraded international standard runways
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has unveiled plans to
construct state-of-the-art runways at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi,
as reported by ARY News.
According to the details, the CAA has decided to upgrade
both runways – 25R/07L and 25L/07R – at Karachi Airport to meet international
standards.
The aviation authority has invited eligible companies to
participate in the bidding process for the construction of the primary and
secondary runways at the airport.

In a statement, the CAA emphasized that all domestic and
foreign companies intending to bid must possess relevant experience, expertise,
and financial capability. Furthermore, Pakistani companies are required to be
registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council.
The CAA officials have scheduled the pre-bid ceremony for
October 17, 2023, at 11:30 AM at Terminal One.
In a related development last month, the Pakistan Civil
Aviation Authority (PCAA) also announced plans to construct a
'state-of-the-art' air traffic control (ATC) tower at Jinnah International
Airport in Karachi.
During a board meeting held in Karachi, the PCAA approved
significant decisions aimed at enhancing airport infrastructure and safety
measures.

Among these decisions was the construction of a world-class
Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and a Rescue Fire Fighting (RFF) complex at
Jinnah International Airport.
Sources indicated that the existing ATC tower, in service
for an impressive 91 years, is constrained by height limitations and no longer
meets the requirements of modern aviation. The approval for a new, contemporary
ATC tower is expected to address these limitations while enhancing visibility
and flight safety. The project is anticipated to be completed within a year.
Additionally, the decision to establish an RFF complex is
geared toward bolstering fire safety measures at Karachi Airport.
