Karachi Airport implements facial
recognition system for enhanced security
In a significant move to
bolster security and prevent criminal activities, authorities at Karachi
Airport have introduced a cutting-edge Facial Recognition System. Developed and
installed by the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA), this system is designed to
effectively identify and apprehend individuals attempting to escape the country
via air travel.
The implementation of this
Face Recognition System is a collaborative effort between the FIA and the Sindh
Police. Known criminal data has been integrated into the system to create a
comprehensive face recognition database at Karachi Airport.
Presently, the facial
recognition system is operational exclusively at Karachi Airport. Whenever an
individual with a criminal record comes under the surveillance of airport
cameras, the system promptly alerts the monitoring room. This real-time
notification allows FIA authorities to take immediate action based on the
available criminal data.
It's important to note
that, as of now, the process of identifying accused individuals through the
facial recognition system is not yet active at other airports across the
country, including Islamabad and Lahore. This limitation poses challenges in
tracing and apprehending criminals who may attempt to utilize these airports
for escape.
The implementation of the
Facial Recognition System at Karachi Airport marks a significant step forward
in bolstering security measures and deterring criminals who might exploit air
travel to evade justice. The hope is that similar systems will be introduced at
other airports nationwide, thereby enhancing the overall security and law
enforcement efforts of the country.
