Government and CAA Employees fail to reach agreement over airport outsourcing
Efforts to find a common
understanding between civil aviation employees and the government regarding the
contentious matter of airport outsourcing have hit a snag. The employees' union, JIKA, remains committed
to their protest until their demands are addressed and fulfilled.
A demonstration of their
unwavering determination was witnessed at Islamabad International Airport,
where employees donned black armbands as a symbol of their dissatisfaction with
the government's outsourcing plans.
In March 2023, Pakistan
government had approved outsourcing of three major airports of the country
to support cash-strapped economy.
During the protest, JIKA
Secretary Sheikh Khalid firmly stated that they would not allow airport
outsourcing under any circumstances. He emphasized that the protest movement
would continue until their demands receive acknowledgment and approval.
The union's resolve to
escalate the protest and intensify efforts remains strong as they strive for a
favorable resolution.
A significant step taken by
JIKA involves proposing amendments to the Airport
Authority Bill 2023. To this end, the union has submitted a draft outlining
the suggested revisions to the Ministry of Aviation.
These proposed amendments
aim to protect the interests of civil aviation employees, ensuring that
outsourcing does not compromise their job security and rights.
