Cashless payment system introduced at airports to facilitate passengers
In a major step toward modernizing air travel
services, the Pakistan Airports
Authority (PAA) has launched a digital cashless payment system
across airports nationwide. The new system aims to make transactions faster,
safer, and more transparent — aligning with the government’s broader push
toward a cashless economy.
Under the initiative, travelers can now pay for
services such as parking, lounge access, fast-track facilities, and baggage
handling through QR codes, mobile wallets, or online portals, eliminating the
need for cash at service counters.
Enhancing traveler experience
The PAA said the move will streamline payments
and reduce waiting times, particularly during peak travel hours. Passengers can
now:
·
Use smartphones or QR codes
to make instant payments for airport services.
·
Enjoy seamless shopping and
dining, as retail and food outlets adopt digital payment systems.
·
Access automated
transaction records, ensuring better transparency and fewer disputes.
·
Experience quicker service
delivery as manual cash handling phases out.
“Our goal is to create a smarter, more
efficient airport experience,” said a PAA spokesperson. “Digital payments are
not only convenient for passengers but also support accountability and
operational efficiency.”

Implementation and rollout
The cashless payment system will be introduced
first at major airports, including Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, before
expanding to regional facilities. Installation of POS terminals, QR scanners,
and digital kiosks is already underway, while airport staff are receiving
training to assist passengers with the transition.
Existing services such as parking fees, VIP
lounge bookings, and excess baggage payments will gradually move to the digital
platform. The PAA expects full implementation within the next few months as
part of its ongoing modernization drive.
A step toward digital
transformation
The initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment
to digital governance and financial transparency. By reducing cash handling and
introducing traceable payment records, the system aims to enhance efficiency
and minimize opportunities for error or fraud.
