FBR restricts cell phones under
baggage policy to one
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)
plans to introduce new restrictions on the number of mobile phones passengers
can bring into Pakistan under the Baggage Rules. According to a draft of
proposed amendments to the 2006 Baggage Rules, passengers will only be allowed
to bring one mobile phone for personal use. Any additional phones beyond this
limit will be prohibited.
The amendments also stipulate that
goods imported in commercial quantities will not be released upon payment of
duties, taxes, or redemption fines, further tightening import policies.

The FBR has invited objections or
suggestions regarding the proposed changes. Stakeholders have seven days from
the publication of the notification in the official Gazette to submit their
input. Any feedback received within this timeframe will be considered, the FBR
stated in its notification.
These measures are part of broader
efforts to streamline customs policies and curb the misuse of the baggage
allowance system for commercial imports.
