Pakistan to provide basic and tactical-level training to Belarusian fighter pilots

Pakistan has committed to offering basic to tactical-level training for Belarusian Air Force (BAF) pilots and maintenance crews, as part of growing defense cooperation between the two countries, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.

The announcement came during a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief Air Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and Major General Andrei Yulianovich Lukyanovich, Commander of the Belarus Air Force and Air Defense.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Air Chief Marshal Sidhu affirmed the PAF’s readiness to support BAF through capacity-building initiatives, which include structured pilot and technical training programs.

“PAF is committed to extending full support for the basic to tactical-level training of pilots and maintenance crews for capacity building of BAF,” the statement read.

The cooperation will also feature high-level exchange programs aimed at fostering professional development and operational knowledge sharing between the two air forces.

Major General Lukyanovich expressed keen interest in the PAF’s wartime experience and combat-tested doctrines, particularly noting Pakistan's ability to adapt under high-pressure combat scenarios. He underscored the importance of learning from the PAF’s operational history and training systems.

The meeting followed a separate defense dialogue a day earlier between Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and his Belarusian counterpart Lt. Gen. Victor Khrenin, where both sides discussed broader military and technological collaboration.

These engagements are part of a larger bilateral push following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Belarus in April 2025, during which both countries signed a military-technical cooperation roadmap for 2025–2027 along with agreements in trade, defense, and industrial sectors.

The growing defense relationship reflects Islamabad’s strategic aim to deepen international military partnerships while offering its expertise in combat aviation, training, and defense production.
