Pakistan Airports Authority increases cargo fees by up to 100%
The Pakistan Airports Authority
(PAA) has implemented a sweeping increase in cargo handling fees across the
country’s airports, with some charges rising by up to 100%, marking the first
major revision in five years.
In a notification issued early
Wednesday, the PAA confirmed that the revised tariff structure took effect on
July 1. The decision, approved by the authority’s executive committee, is aimed
at aligning cargo fees with rising operational costs and ensuring continued
service quality at Pakistan’s airports.

Under the new rates, several categories have seen sharp hikes. The fee for transporting pet birds has increased by 50%, climbing from Rs200 to Rs300 per kilogram. Charges for shipping betel leaves have doubled, now set at Rs70 per kilogram, up from Rs35. General cargo fees have also risen by 25%, moving from Rs100 to Rs125 per kilogram. The updated tariffs apply to a broad range of cargo, including pet animals such as cats and dogs, as well as other general items.
PAA officials defended the
increases, citing unchanged tariffs over the past five years despite mounting
operational expenses. “This adjustment was necessary to maintain financial
sustainability and service standards across the country’s airport network,” a
spokesperson said.
The PAA, established in August 2024
under Section 3 of the Pakistan Airports Authority Act, is responsible for the
development and efficient management of airport infrastructure and air
transport services nationwide.
