Resumption of PIA flights to restore public trust in national carrier
Minister for Privatization, Board of
Investment, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, has welcomed the commencement
of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe, calling it a
significant development. He expressed confidence that the move will restore
public trust in PIA, with travelers now looking forward to flying with the airline
to Europe.
Khan further emphasized that this
flight operation marks an important milestone for PIA’s privatization process.
He added that, following Europe, the airline might soon expand to the United
Kingdom and the United States, which would further enhance PIA's credibility
and marketability.

In an exclusive interview, Abdul
Aleem Khan shared that several issues previously hindering PIA’s privatization
have been resolved. He assured that the remaining tasks will be completed
swiftly. The minister also revealed that the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
had approved two key issues related to PIA’s privatization, including the
removal of an 18% sales tax on the purchase of new aircraft and the transfer of
PIA’s accumulated losses to a Holding Company.
Khan also mentioned that, under the
new conditions, PIA's liabilities and old debts will be cleared, making the
airline more attractive for potential investors. He concluded by stating that
the privatization process is progressing rapidly, and the public can expect
positive news soon about PIA’s transition to the private sector.
