Pakistan earmarks Rs. 7,257.997 million for development of aviation sector

Approximately Rs. 4,097.997 million is allocated for eleven ongoing schemes

Govt allocates Rs. 7,257.997 million for Aviation Division in PSDP 2024-25

The federal government has earmarked Rs. 7,257.997 million under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the fiscal year 2024-25 to fund ongoing and new schemes of the Aviation Division.

According to the budget document issued on Wednesday, approximately Rs. 4,097.997 million is allocated for eleven ongoing schemes, and Rs. 3,160.000 million is designated for two new schemes.

The new schemes include the Modernization of Hydromet Services of PMD in Pakistan, with a total allocation of Rs. 3,000.000 million for the fiscal year 2024-25, and the Establishment of the National Centre for Rainfall Enhancement (NCRE) in the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Cloud Seeding Project, for which Rs. 160.000 million has been allocated.

The ongoing schemes cover various projects such as the construction of the Rain Water Harvesting Kasana Dam at Islamabad International Airport, installation of Weather Surveillance Radars at Multan and Sukkur, development of the New Gwadar International Airport, upgradation of the ASF Academy in Karachi, and construction of ASF accommodations at Turbat Airport, among others. Additionally, new meteorological observatories and hostels for operational staff will be established in Naran and Balakot, respectively. Other projects include the construction of facilities at Panjgur, Faisalabad, and Gilgit airports.

The Modernization of Hydromet Services of PMD in Pakistan will be funded through a foreign loan of Rs. 3,000.000 million, which was approved by ECNEC on July 19, 2023.
