IFC team reveals key update on
Islamabad Airport outsourcing
The outsourcing of Islamabad
International Airport is set to accelerate with the announcement of a crucial
date for the process.
During the 10th Meeting of the
Steering Committee on Outsourcing of Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore airports,
the International Finance Corporation (IFC) team briefed lawmakers on the
progress regarding Islamabad Airport's outsourcing.

The meeting, held on Thursday, was
chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. It
was revealed that robust competition among various consortiums, including both
local and foreign investors, is anticipated for the bid closing date on July
15, 2024.
The meeting's participants—Defence
Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Secretary
Aviation Saif Anjum, officials from the Board of Investment and the Civil
Aviation Authority, and an IFC team—also reviewed the outsourcing progress for
Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore and Jinnah International Airport
in Karachi, expressing satisfaction with the advancements made so far.

It is important to note that the
former Aviation Adviser stated that only the operation and management of
specific airport components would be outsourced, while critical services such
as the Air Traffic Control Tower, Rescue and Fire Fighting Services, and Air
Navigation services would remain under the administrative control of the
Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.
The government has clarified that
the airports in Lahore and Karachi will be outsourced following the outsourcing
of Islamabad International Airport. However, given the current state of
Islamabad Airport's outsourcing, the process appears complex and challenging.
