Pakistan to further intensify luggage-checking systems at
airports
Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is gearing up to deploy
advanced luggage-checking machines at airports in anticipation of the 2024 Hajj
operations.
As part of the preparations for the upcoming Hajj pilgrimage, the
Civil Aviation Authority has initiated comprehensive security checks for
passengers bound for Saudi Arabia.

To bolster security measures, the authority is set to import
cutting-edge luggage-scanning machines from Saudi Arabia for deployment at
airports.
These state-of-the-art machines are slated to be handed over to
the Air Security Force (ASF) in February 2024, with plans to replace the older
baggage machines.

Notably, in a previous disclosure during a meeting of the Senate
Standing Committee on Aviation chaired by Senator Hidayatullah, the Director
General of Civil Aviation had acknowledged that, despite the installation of
advanced machines at Pakistani airports, they currently lack the capability to
detect certain substances, such as ice (crystal methamphetamine) drugs.
