Electronic Gates to be installed at all Pakistani airports
All airports in Pakistan are set to be equipped with Electronic
gates (E-gates), as announced by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).
The initiative was confirmed on Tuesday, with the first phase of the E-gate
project already underway at three major international airports: Islamabad,
Allama Iqbal, and Jinnah International Airport.
The project will be executed under the supervision of the Aviation
Secretary and the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority (DGCAA).
Inputs and suggestions for the E-gate project have been sought from various
national institutions, including the National Database and Registration
Authority (NADRA), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for passports, and FIA
immigration.
Following board approval, tenders will be issued for the E-gate
project, which is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for
passengers. With E-gates in place, travelers will no longer need to queue for
boarding passes; instead, they can obtain their boarding cards by scanning
their passport and ticket at the E-gate.
The E-gate system utilizes the data stored in the passport's
biometric chip. This innovative technology will provide international travelers
with added convenience. Passengers will undergo biometric authentication, which
may include facial, fingerprint, iris recognition, or other procedures, after
which the gate will automatically open for them, streamlining the boarding
process.
