Pakistani airport gets Australian tech gadgets to improve border
security
Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Immigration at Jinnah
International Airport in Karachi has been equipped with advanced Australian
technology to enhance border security and combat visa fraud and human
trafficking.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) has provided FIA Immigration
with 17 pieces of state-of-the-art equipment, including Magnifiers, Ultraviolet
Radiation Lights, and Security Laminate Verifiers. These cutting-edge machines
will empower FIA immigration officials to identify counterfeit passports and
visas, ensuring a more robust screening process for travelers.

Muhammad Rashid Bhatti, the Assistant Director of FIA Immigration,
expressed gratitude for this valuable equipment, highlighting its crucial role
in strengthening border security and combating illegal activities at the
airport.
This development follows the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority's
(PCAA) decision to introduce Electronic gates (E-gates) at airports throughout
Pakistan. The first phase of the E-gate project has already commenced at major
international airports, including Islamabad, Allama Iqbal, and Jinnah
International Airport. The project is being overseen by the Aviation Secretary
and the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority (DGCAA), with input
from various national institutions, such as the National Database and
Registration Authority (NADRA), the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for
passports, and FIA immigration. Tenders for the E-gate project are set to be
solicited following board approval.
