British High Commissioner donates two airport security
scanners to Pakistan
The British High Commission has highlighted the
strong and ever-growing bond between the UK and Pakistan, with over 1.6 million
people of Pakistani heritage in the UK.
Acknowledging the vital role of air links in
trade and people-to-people relationships between the UK and Pakistan, the UK
has allocated £164,000 (60 million rupees) in funding for two state-of-the-art
screening units for Karachi and Lahore airports. These units are designed to
detect illicit items in passenger baggage, enhancing safety for both British
and Pakistani travelers heading to the UK and beyond.
The donation is part of the UK's ongoing
aviation collaboration with Pakistan, aimed at raising safety and security
standards. The UK places a strong emphasis on aviation safety, which not only
ensures safe travel for UK and Pakistani nationals but also supports the growth
of international aviation.
The British High Commissioner attended a
ceremony at Karachi airport to formally hand over the security scanners. She
expressed her delight at providing this advanced technology to enhance security
at Pakistan's airports. The new scanners will boost passenger confidence and
contribute to safer air travel from Pakistan.
The High Commissioner also emphasized the
crucial role aviation plays in expanding trade ties between the UK and Pakistan
and facilitating travel for the diaspora. Enhancing flight safety strengthens
the relationship between the UK and Pakistan, and she thanked the Pakistan
Civil Aviation Authority for their cooperation in aviation security and safety
matters.
