Wild boar collides with plane during landing at Islamabad
Airport
In an unusual incident, a wild boar intruded into
Islamabad's Jinnah International Airport and made contact with a landing plane
on the runway.
The presence of the wild animal on the runway appeared to be
a result of negligence on the part of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) staff.
The boar somehow managed to access the runway and came into contact with a
private airline's ER-702 flight arriving in Islamabad from Dubai.
Sixty-one
incidents of bird strike reported in Pakistan
The plane's captain promptly reported the incident to CAA
authorities, triggering a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft by
engineering staff. Subsequently, airport personnel cleared the runway of any
remains left by the wild boar.
This incident is reminiscent of a similar occurrence in
January 2020 when an Etihad Airways Airbus A320 flight from Abu Dhabi also
encountered a wild boar during landing at Islamabad Airport.
The animal was struck by the aircraft's right main landing
gear, and its lifeless body was discovered on Runway 28L.
