Sixty-one incidents of bird strike reported in Pakistan
A recent report has
revealed that a total of 61 aircraft, belonging to both foreign and national
airlines, were impacted by bird strikes in Pakistan between January 2023 and
June 2023.
The spokesperson
for
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) shared statistical data with the media,
indicating that the national flag carrier incurred significant financial losses
as a result of these bird strikes. Over the course of six months, a total of 39
bird hits were reported at domestic airports throughout the country.
From July to December 2022,
around
111 such incidents were reported in the country.
Among the airports, Karachi witnessed the highest number of bird strikes, with 19 incidents recorded during this period. Lahore airport followed closely with 17 strikes, while Islamabad airport reported 5 incidents. Additionally, Quetta airport had 4 recorded incidents, Multan airport had 2, and Sukkur and Sialkot airports each had 2 and 1 strike(s) respectively. Due to these incidents, the affected aircraft had to be temporarily grounded, leading to substantial financial burdens for the airline.
