Pakistan, Turkey looking forward to inaugural flight of their fifth-generation TFX fighter jet

Pakistan and Turkey are preparing for the inaugural flight of their fifth-generation TFX fighter jet, scheduled for the upcoming month. This joint effort signifies Pakistan's official involvement in Turkey's "TFX" aircraft program.

Initiated in 2010, the TFX project achieved a significant milestone this year with the aircraft's maiden taxi. The TFX Stealth Aircraft, intended for induction into the Pakistan Air Force by 2030, is poised to redefine air superiority.

Measuring 21 meters in length and featuring a wingspan of up to 14 meters, the TFX boasts a take-off weight of 27,215 kg. Powered by US-made General Electric F-11 engines, Pakistan retains the option to utilize British-made Rolls-Royce engines if objections arise from the US.

Impressive in its capabilities, the TFX has a maximum speed of Mach 1.8 and a combat range of 1100 km. With a service ceiling reaching 55,000 feet, the aircraft is equipped with air-to-air Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles and air-to-ground cruise missiles, promising versatility in combat scenarios.

Pakistan, Turkey agree on enhancing cooperation in military aviation

The advanced cockpit is outfitted with modern Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, enhancing the ability to intercept enemies according to contemporary combat requirements. This marks a significant advancement for the Pakistan Air Force, reintroducing twin-engine fighter jets after an extended period.

Beyond fighter jets, the collaboration between Pakistan and Turkey extends to the production of unmanned aerial platforms. Approximately 200 Pakistani experts are contributing to the TFX project, with the National Aerospace Science and Technology Park of the Pakistan Air Force playing a pivotal role, according to Jane's Defense.

Notably, the intention is to phase out existing F-Sixteens, with Pakistan and Turkey considering the TFX as the successor. The recent visit of Turkish Air Force Chief General Attila Golan to Pakistan highlighted tangible progress in the joint production of fifth-generation aircraft and unmanned aerial platforms.

The journey toward advanced aviation capabilities represents a pivotal chapter in the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Turkey.
