CAA urges return of unused properties from PIA
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has formally requested the
return of unused properties and offices from Pakistan International Airlines
(PIA), aiming to streamline resources and reduce the national airline's rental
expenses.
In a letter addressed to the CEO of PIA, CAA officials have
requested the physical handover of abandoned space, land, and buildings. This
initiative is expected to contribute to the optimization of the national
airline's property
holdings.
The General Manager of PIA has instructed all departments to
furnish details regarding unused buildings and abandoned land by December 15.
Pakistan
formally bifurcates Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) into two parts
Simultaneously, the Director General of CAA has informed the
aviation ministry about the ongoing process of reclaiming unused properties
from PIA.
In a recent development, the federal government has bifurcated the
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) into two distinct entities. As per the
notification, the new entities are the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) and
Civil Aviation, each with its own leadership.
The newly established Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) will
oversee the management of the country's airports, while matters pertaining to
the airport system, flight landing approvals, flight safety, and other
departments will remain under the purview of CAA.

Notably, the federal government's decision to outsource the
management of major airports, including Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, has
sparked protests from CAA employees. This outsourcing initiative, conducted
through a public-private partnership, aims to generate foreign exchange
reserves.
