Partnership between PIA and Garuda Indonesia to strengthen connectivity and exports

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has entered into a significant cargo partnership with Garuda Indonesia, a move aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s export sector and expanding its global cargo reach.

The agreement, signed under a Cargo Special Pro-Rate framework, will provide Pakistani exporters with improved and more reliable access to international markets. The deal is set to take effect in January 2026 and will remain valid through July 2027.

Under the arrangement, cargo originating from Pakistan will be transported via Jeddah and Kuala Lumpur before reaching Jakarta and onward destinations. The partnership also enhances connectivity to major global hubs, including Sydney, Melbourne, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.

Aviation officials said the collaboration will help Pakistani goods reach key Asian and Pacific markets such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Seoul, and Australia. Exporters and freight forwarders are expected to benefit from competitive cargo rates along with priority handling services.

The initiative is part of PIA’s broader strategy to expand its air cargo operations, support national exporters, and strengthen Pakistan’s presence in international trade and logistics networks.

The development builds on another recent milestone for the national carrier. Last year, PIA secured a cargo licence from the UK Department for Transport, allowing it to operate direct cargo flights between Pakistan and the United Kingdom following a successful joint audit by Pakistani and British aviation authorities.
