Pakistan to sell JF-17 fighter jets to another friendly country

The Pakistan Army on Thursday announced that a “friendly country” has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to procure Pakistan’s JF-17 Thunder fighter jet, marking what officials describe as another milestone in the country’s growing defense and industrial cooperation.
The name of the purchasing country was not disclosed.

According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow 2025 in the UAE, where a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent is currently participating.

ISPR said the development underscores international confidence in Pakistan’s indigenous aviation capabilities. The PAF’s showcase includes the advanced JF-17 Thunder Block-III, a 4.5-generation multi-role fighter, alongside Super Mushshak trainer aircraft.

The Block-III variant, capable of a diverse range of combat missions, drew significant attention at the airshow. Defense analysts, aviation experts and visitors reportedly singled it out as a highlight, praising its advanced technology, strong combat performance, and cost-effectiveness. The statement also referenced the jet’s operational role during recent tensions with India.

Pakistan inducted the JF-17 Block-II dual-seater variant in 2020 and continues domestic production of the aircraft, which is jointly developed with China.

ISPR added that several countries expressed interest in acquiring the JF-17 during the event. Azerbaijan, notably, signed a deal last year for the Block-III version.

During the airshow, Pakistan Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu held high-level meetings with air chiefs and senior officials from multiple “friendly countries,” including UAE Defense Undersecretary Lt. Gen. Pilot Ibrahim Nasser Al-Alawi and Maj. Gen. Rashid Mohammed Al-Shamsi, commander of the UAE Air Force and Air Defense.
