First flight of PIA to Manchester, UK to depart on October 25
Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA) will resume direct flights between Islamabad International Airport
(ISB) and Manchester Airport
(MAN) on October 25, marking the airline’s long-awaited return to the UK after
a five-year ban.
Since 2020, travelers between
Pakistan and northern UK cities have had to rely on connecting flights through
London or other hubs, resulting in longer travel times and higher fares.

The relaunch follows the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s decision on July 16 to remove PIA from its Air Safety List. The move came after extensive technical audits and verified improvements in pilot licensing, maintenance standards, and safety management systems — reaffirming the airline’s compliance with international aviation safety protocols.
“This is a moment of immense pride
and great significance for Pakistan, and a tremendous relief for thousands of
passengers who rely on this critical route,” said Air Vice Marshal Muhammad
Amir Hayat, Chief Executive Officer of PIA.
“Through close collaboration with
our UK partners, we’ve undertaken rigorous reforms and established a
world-class aviation safety framework. PIA’s return to the UK reflects restored
operational integrity and financial stability, ensuring reliable and affordable
services for our passengers.”
The five-year suspension — imposed
in 2020 following global concerns over pilot credential verification — prompted
a comprehensive overhaul of Pakistan’s aviation sector, leading to structural
reforms, enhanced oversight, and stronger international cooperation.
