Pakistan to launch new satellites for improved data collection
Pakistan is advancing its space program with
plans to launch three new high-resolution Earth observation satellites within
the next six months, officials from the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research
Commission (SUPARCO) confirmed.
These next-generation satellites will enhance
Pakistan’s capabilities in 24/7 imaging, allowing for improved data collection
related to environmental monitoring, climate change, natural disasters, and
agricultural planning.
Currently, Pakistan has four Earth observation satellites in orbit. Data from these satellites—particularly flood-related information—has already been shared with provincial governments. Since August 27, SUPARCO has been providing regular data updates to the Punjab government to assist with flood response and disaster management.

SUPARCO officials also highlighted a recent cloudburst event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which occurred in a very short time. While such events are difficult to predict, research is already underway, and officials believe future cloudbursts could be forecast with short-term alerts, improving early warning systems across the country.
This upcoming satellite launch marks another step forward in Pakistan’s growing focus on space-based technology for national development and disaster preparedness.
