UK High Commissioner visits Karachi airport, praises safety measures
British High Commissioner Jane
Marriott toured the cockpit of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft
at Jinnah International Airport on Wednesday, inspecting newly installed safety
systems ahead of the airline’s resumption of UK flights later this month.
The visit came just weeks after the
UK lifted its five-year air safety ban on Pakistani carriers. As part of the
“Come Fly With Me” campaign, Marriott’s tour — shared in an Instagram reel —
showed her receiving a boarding pass, meeting ground staff, and stepping into
the cockpit. There, PIA pilots demonstrated upgraded control systems, advanced
navigation tools, and strengthened safety protocols designed to meet global
aviation standards.

Marriott hailed the joint efforts of Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority and UK experts, calling the ban’s removal “a milestone for Pakistan’s aviation sector.”
“This reflects the hard work of
aviation experts in both countries. I look forward to welcoming Pakistani
airlines back to the UK soon,” she said.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority removed Pakistan from its Air Safety List on July 16, clearing PIA to restart direct services to London, Manchester, and Birmingham from mid-August. The airline has invested heavily in technology, safety compliance, and crew training to regain international confidence.
