In a major step to strengthen aviation safety and emergency preparedness, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has successfully carried out its first night-time fire emergency drill at the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIAP).

The large-scale simulation featured a mock aircraft fire, aimed at evaluating the airport’s emergency response capabilities under low-visibility and limited-light conditions. Firefighting and rescue units swiftly responded to the simulated incident, effectively extinguishing the blaze and showcasing a high level of readiness.

The exercise tested key components of the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP), including response times, coordination between agencies, and communication efficiency. Teams from the Airport Security Force (ASF), rescue services, and medical staff worked in unison to manage the scenario smoothly.

A triage area was set up near the mock crash site, where medical teams conducted rapid assessments and provided immediate care based on injury severity, adhering to international emergency standards.

Supervised by the Chief Fire and Rescue Officer (CFRO), the drill also reviewed command structures and operational procedures. Senior PAA officials monitored the drill to evaluate performance in real-time and identify areas for enhancement.

Particular focus was given to testing the functionality of nighttime lighting systems, visibility aids, and critical communication tools required during nocturnal emergency operations.
