Pakistan emphasizes that outer space should not be used for militarization
Pakistan on Wednesday voiced strong
concern over the militarization of space following India’s announcement that it
had successfully destroyed one of its own satellites using an anti-satellite
(ASAT) weapon.
In a statement issued by the Foreign
Ministry, Pakistan emphasized that outer space should remain a realm of
peaceful exploration and cooperation. “Space is the common heritage of mankind,
and all nations share a responsibility to prevent actions that could lead to
its militarization,” the statement said.

Without directly naming India, the
ministry criticized the demonstration of such capabilities, urging the
international community to work together on legal frameworks to prevent
military threats in space.
“We hope that countries which have
previously condemned similar demonstrations by others will now support efforts
to develop global instruments to ensure the peaceful use of outer space,” the
statement added.
In a pointed reference to India’s
display of its ASAT capability, the ministry remarked, “Boasting of such
capabilities is reminiscent of Don Quixote’s tilting at windmills”—alluding to
the fictional Spanish knight known for his misguided and futile battles.

successful interception of a satellite in low Earth orbit, marking its entry
into a select group of nations with ASAT technology.
