Pakistani Airlines hope flights to Europe, US will resume soon
Pakistan’s aviation sector is on the verge of a major overhaul, with direct
flights to the UK and EU expected to resume soon.
The UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) plans to send a safety team to
Pakistan for an assessment, which will likely be followed by a security
evaluation of major airports in the country. This initiative could facilitate
the resumption of services by Pakistani airlines, such as Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA) and Airblue, to the UK.
If these assessments yield positive results, airlines like Serene Air may
also receive clearance for direct flights to Europe. This development is pivotal
for the European Union’s decision regarding the lifting of the ban on Pakistani
airlines.

Restoration of EU flights would not only revive services but also encourage
the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to reassess Pakistan’s aviation
category. Currently, Pakistan is classified as Category 2 following the EU ban,
but a successful reassessment by the EU could elevate it to Category 1. This
upgrade would enable Pakistani airlines to broaden their international
operations, including potential routes to the U.S.
To facilitate this progress, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) must
strictly comply with the safety and security standards set by the International
Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the UK. Comprehensive adherence across
the aviation sector is vital for lifting current restrictions and fostering
future growth in international flight operations.

If all regulatory requirements are met, the next year could witness the
revival of direct flights from Pakistani airlines to the UK, EU, and
potentially the U.S., marking a significant milestone for the nation’s aviation
industry.
