Mpox screening process activated at Pakistani Airports
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired a meeting on Saturday to discuss
measures against the spread of Monkeypox (Mpox) virus.
In a press conference in Islamabad, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, the Prime Minister’s
Coordinator on National Health Services, reported that only one Mpox case has
recently been identified in Pakistan. This case involved an individual who
traveled from the Gulf Region and tested positive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dr. Ahmad noted that the authorities responded swiftly, isolating the
affected person's family members to prevent further spread.
He announced that the screening process for Mpox has now been activated at
airports to enhance precautionary measures. Dr. Ahmad emphasized that Mpox
spreads through direct contact and that treatment generally involves managing
symptoms with fever and pain medications. Anti-viral drugs are only
administered if the situation worsens.
He reassured the public that there is no cause for panic due to the low
mortality rate of the virus. However, Dr. Ahmad advised travelers from abroad
to self-isolate if they experience symptoms such as rash, flu, fever, or body
aches.
