Pakistan looking to acquire China’s J-35A stealth fighters to bolster air power
Janes, international leading defense publication, has confirmed that Pakistan will soon acquire China’s advanced J-35A stealth fighters—an export variant of the Shenyang FC-31 'Gyrfalcon'—in a significant upgrade to its airpower capabilities. Deliveries are expected to begin within months.
A senior Pakistani government official told Janes that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will
be among the first foreign operators of the fifth-generation aircraft. “The
aircraft will begin arriving within months,” the official said, adding that PAF
pilots are already in China undergoing training on the J-35A. Specifics on the
number of aircraft and deal terms remain undisclosed.

Air Force considers acquisition of 5th generation Chinese FC-31 stealth
fighters
Developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation, the
J-35A brings cutting-edge stealth features, advanced avionics, and multirole
combat capability. Designed for low observability and high mission versatility,
the platform marks a major step forward in Pakistan’s aerial warfare
capabilities.
According to Janes Defence News, this acquisition places Pakistan among a
select group of nations operating fifth-generation fighter jets, underscoring
its growing strategic alignment with China in next-generation defense
technologies.
The J-35A's induction is expected to provide a
decisive advantage in regional air combat scenarios, particularly as other
regional air forces also move toward advanced fighter platforms.
Building
on J-10CE Success
The J-35A deal follows strong Pakistani
satisfaction with the performance of the Chinese-origin J-10CE fighters.
Defense sources note that the J-10CE proved its value during recent tensions
with India, demonstrating precision strike capabilities and rapid battlefield
responsiveness.

The success of the J-10CE has reportedly
bolstered Pakistan’s confidence in Chinese aerospace systems and helped pave
the way for more sophisticated procurements like the J-35A.
With the J-35A soon joining its fleet, the PAF
is clearly positioning itself as a leading airpower in South Asia’s evolving
fifth-generation air warfare landscape.
