Pakistan implements strict drone policy to ensure airspace safety

Pakistan’s Ministry of Aviation has introduced new policy guidelines mandating the registration of drone cameras with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

According to the updated regulations on the Ministry of Aviation’s website, all unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, must be registered under the new “Civil Unmanned Aircraft Rules, 2024”.

Current drone owners are required to apply for registration within four months of the rules taking effect. Those who acquire drones after the implementation date have a 15-day window to complete their registration. Each registered UAV will receive a unique alphanumeric identifier, and applicants must specify their intended use of the drones in the registration applications.

Furthermore, individuals are limited to registering no more than three drones within the same category per calendar year. Drones are categorized based on their maximum take-off weight into four groups:

Category-I: up to 250 grams

Category-II: more than 250 grams but up to 10 kilograms

Category-III: more than 10 kilograms but up to 25 kilograms

Category-IV: more than 25 kilograms but up to 100 kilograms

These measures aim to enhance the safety and regulation of Pakistan's airspace.
