Pakistan enforces utilization of national satellites
for government communication
In a significant move aimed at strengthening its satellite
communication framework, the Federal Government of Pakistan has made the
decision to enforce a mandatory directive as part of the National Space Policy.
This directive mandates all government departments and agencies to utilize
national satellites for their communication needs.
The National Space Policy dictates that the Federal Government,
provincial authorities, armed forces, and designated government entities must
exclusively rely on national communication satellites for their satellite
communication requirements.

This directive underscores the importance of leasing capacity
solely from national communication satellites. Only in cases where necessary
capacity is unavailable on national platforms are government entities allowed
to resort to registered satellite operators.
The National Space Agency has been tasked as the sole entity
responsible for acquiring, processing, and disseminating satellite imagery and
related products, whether from national or foreign satellites. This initiative
aims to bolster the country's capabilities in satellite-based reconnaissance
and surveillance, meeting the operational needs of various governmental bodies
and institutions domestically and internationally.

Moreover, Pakistan's remote sensing satellite data and imagery are
expected to play a crucial role in advancing the management and sustainable
utilization of natural resources. By harnessing these resources, federal and
provincial government ministries, divisions, and agencies will be equipped to
optimize resource allocation, streamline operations, and promote efficient
governance practices.
The National Space Agency is dedicated to developing the requisite
capabilities and extending support to government entities for the effective
utilization of space technology applications. Through strategic collaboration
and investment in space infrastructure, Pakistan is poised to emerge as a
regional leader in satellite communication and resource management, thus
enhancing national resilience and driving sustainable development endeavors.
