Pakistan grants extension in bids' submission for airports' outsourcing
Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore airports' outsourcing bid submission timeline has been extended for another 60 days, until May 15, 2024, as decided in the recent meeting of the Steering Committee.
Chaired by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, the committee reviewed progress on the outsourcing project.
The country director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) provided updates on the project's advancement and noted positive responses from potential investors due to sustained engagement efforts.
The recent change in political administration has bolstered confidence among investors interested in Pakistan.

Requests for an extension in bid submission deadlines came from international bidders representing Qatar, UAE, Germany, Turkey, The Netherlands, Malaysia, as well as local consortia.
The foreign minister pledged full support to these investors through economic diplomacy, ensuring an expedited process for the project's success. Taking into account the requests and IFC's recommendation, the committee agreed to extend the bid submission date by 60 days.
Additionally, progress on the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe and the UK was discussed. The Foreign Minister assured comprehensive diplomatic support aligned with the new economic diplomacy strategy, benefiting not only the Pakistani diaspora but also the broader public interest in the UK and the EU.

The meeting, attended by Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar, and representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, highlighted the importance of effective collaboration in advancing these key initiatives.
