Pakistan to auction a stranded Thai plane
Pakistan is set to auction a Thai plane that has been parked
at Sialkot Airport for the past five years. The Boeing 767, owned by Thai company Jet Asia, has accrued
substantial parking fees during its extended stay, surpassing the aircraft's
original cost.
Despite attempts to contact the Thai company regarding the
unpaid parking fees, the Sialkot International Airport (SIAL) authorities faced
unresponsiveness as the company had turned off its contact number.
Subsequently, legal action was taken, and the SIAL authorities obtained a court
order for the auction of the Thai company's plane.

The auction for the aircraft is scheduled for December 12,
with a starting bid set at a reserve amount of US$1.2 million. The SIAL
authorities highlighted that the cargo plane, originally intended for military
aviation purposes, had landed in Pakistan five years ago and never departed.
The auction represents an effort to recover the outstanding fees and address
the extended occupancy of the plane at the abandoned airport.
