Laser pointer incidents threatening airplanes at Karachi
Airport
Several pilots have registered a growing number of laser
light incidents affecting airplanes during their landing and takeoff procedures
at Karachi's Jinnah International Airport.
Commercially available laser lights have the potential to
interfere with a pilot's vision, leading to distractions and disorientation,
particularly during the critical phases of flight, thus posing a significant
risk to passengers' safety.

Reports from pilots indicate that these laser light strikes
are originating from areas near the Karachi airport, including Model Colony,
Korangi, Shah Faisal Colony, Pehlwan Goth, and other nearby regions.
These incidents have notably increased over the past week,
prompting national and international airline companies to notify the air
traffic controllers about the issue.
According to the pilots, aircraft are targeted by laser
beams both during their approach for landing at Karachi airport and shortly
after takeoff, causing significant challenges during these crucial flight
phases.
