Bahrain’s Gulf Air to start
operations to several cities of Pakistan
Bahrain's national airline,
Gulf Air, is poised to augment its flight frequency to multiple cities in
Pakistan.
The decision to elevate
flight operations was made in a meeting between Bahrain's Minister of
Transportation and Communication, Muhammad bin Thamer Al Kaabi, and Pakistan's
Minister, Khawaja Saad Rafiq in Islamabad.
An official statement by
the Civil Aviation Authority disclosed that both parties mutually agreed that
Gulf Air will enhance its flight services to Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore.
"Discussions also took
place regarding the potential expansion of Gulf Air’s flight operations to
Quetta in the future," the statement noted.
The two ministers explored
the feasibility of initiating chartered flights between the two nations. They
also deliberated on establishing a code-sharing arrangement between Pakistan's
national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), and Gulf Air, aimed at
bolstering air connectivity.
This move to amplify flight
connections between Bahrain and Pakistan coincides with Pakistan's initiative
to outsource the management of three major airports—Islamabad International
Airport, Jinnah International Airport Karachi, and Allama Iqbal International
Airport Lahore—in a bid to enhance passenger services' quality.
In the initial phase, Islamabad International Airport is slated for outsourcing over a 15-year period, and the operational details in this regard are currently in the finalization stage.
