PIA is in talks with Boeing to acquire new planes
Pakistan
International Airlines (PIA) is preparing for a major expansion of its
fleet, with plans to induct 16 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft this year as part
of a broader strategy to strengthen its international operations.
According to officials, the national carrier is expected
to acquire its first Boeing 787 next
month. The aircraft are planned to be sourced from the United States.
The fleet expansion forms part of a longer-term plan
under which PIA aims to acquire around 64 Boeing 787 aircraft over the next
eight years, signaling an ambitious effort to modernize its fleet and expand
its operating capacity.
Depending on the variant and configuration, a Boeing 787
Dreamliner is estimated to have a price tag ranging from approximately $248
million to $355 million.
The proposed expansion comes as PIA undergoes a broader
organizational transformation following the transition to private management,
with the airline also taking steps to boost employee performance and morale.

At its 102nd Board of Directors meeting held on Friday,
PIA approved a performance bonus equivalent to one month’s basic salary for its
employees.
A PIA spokesperson said the decision reflects the new management’s
immediate focus on investing in human capital while aligning employees with the
airline’s wider transformation and growth objectives.
The combination of fleet expansion and workforce incentives points to a new
phase for PIA, with the airline seeking to increase operational capacity while
building a stronger foundation for long-term growth
