PCAA and PAA to establish headquarters in Islamabad after leaving Karachi
The federal government has decided
to relocate the headquarters of two key aviation institutions—the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) and
the Pakistan Airports Authority
(PAA)—from Karachi to Islamabad, marking a significant administrative shift in
the country’s aviation sector.
According to sources, both
organisations will initially establish temporary headquarters at Islamabad
International Airport. The move is intended to bring the aviation authorities
closer to federal ministries and other key government institutions based in the
capital.
A seven-member joint committee
comprising officials from the PCAA and PAA has been constituted to oversee the
relocation process. Deputy Director General Airports Authority Sadiq Rehman
will head the committee.
The committee will identify suitable
space at Islamabad International Airport for the temporary headquarters and
assess the logistical and operational requirements associated with the
relocation.

Sources said the PCAA is expected to
move its headquarters to Islamabad by November, while the PAA is likely to
follow by December. Necessary arrangements will be made to ensure that the
transition does not disrupt the routine operations of either organisation.
The headquarters of both authorities
are currently based in Karachi, which has historically served as a major hub
for Pakistan’s aviation sector. However, the government plans to retain the
organisations’ regional offices in Karachi and other parts of the country.
The relocation will therefore
primarily affect the central administrative structure, while regional offices
and field formations will continue to perform their existing functions.
The move is expected to strengthen
coordination between the aviation authorities and federal institutions in
Islamabad, while bringing a major part of the sector’s central administrative
framework closer to the country’s seat of government.
