Pakistan, Turkiye collaborating with Azerbaijan to strengthen its defense
Azerbaijan has inducted the JF-17 Block III multirole fighter aircraft into its Air Force, marking a major step in the modernization of its combat aviation capabilities.
The new fighter jets will gradually replace Azerbaijan's aging Soviet-era MiG-29 fleet, enhancing the country's air defence, precision-strike capability and network-centric warfare capacity. The aircraft are equipped with advanced systems, including an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, modern electronic warfare equipment and compatibility with beyond-visual-range missiles.

The procurement is part of an expanded defence agreement reportedly valued at 4.6 billion dollars for the acquisition of up to 40 JF-17 Block III aircraft, making it Pakistan's largest-ever defence export contract.
The induction also strengthens defence cooperation among Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Türkiye. The JF-17 platform is designed to support interoperability with Turkish defence systems, including unmanned aerial vehicles, targeting pods and tactical data links.
Azerbaijan has integrated the aircraft into its 408th Fighter Squadron based at Nasosnaya Air Base near Baku. The country aims to achieve full operational capability over the coming years through pilot training, weapons integration and infrastructure development.
