Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announces plans to avert bird strikes at main airports
The Pakistan
Airports Authority (PAA) has announced plans to procure bird repellent
systems to enhance aviation safety and reduce the risk of bird strikes on
aircraft. The systems are proposed to be installed at five major airports:
Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, and Multan.
Officials confirmed that the
initiative is currently under review and that trial deployments are already
underway at one of the country’s major airports.

of bird strike: Lahore Airport to close daily for three hours
Bird strikes pose a serious threat to aviation safety, with the potential to damage aircraft engines and fuselages, particularly during takeoff and landing. In recent years, several such incidents have been reported at airports across Pakistan, prompting authorities to explore advanced preventive technologies.
One notable incident occurred in
December last year when a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Lahore suffered a bird
strike while landing. The incident took place just outside Lahore Airport’s
perimeter. The pilot immediately informed the Pakistan Airports Authority, and
no injuries were reported.
The proposed installation of bird
repellent systems is expected to significantly improve operational safety and
reduce the likelihood of similar incidents in the future.
