Pakistan and Azerbaijan agree to increase cooperation between their air forces
In a significant step toward bolstering
bilateral military ties, a high-level Azerbaijani defence delegation led by Mr.
Agil Gurbanov, Deputy Minister and Director General of Defence, called on Air
Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force
(PAF), at Air Headquarters in Islamabad.
During the meeting, both sides held in-depth and
productive discussions on issues of mutual interest, reaffirming their shared
commitment to enhancing defence cooperation. The dialogue placed particular
emphasis on training, modernization, and the exchange of technical expertise.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer welcomed the visiting delegation warmly, highlighting the deep-rooted religious, cultural, and historical ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan—bonds that continue to underpin the strong and enduring brotherly relationship between the two nations.

He also briefed the delegation on various modernization initiatives currently underway within the Pakistan Air Force, including strategic planning, operational development, and future warfare capabilities. Emphasizing PAF’s readiness to assist in capacity-building, he offered support in upgrading Azerbaijan’s human resource development, maintenance systems, and operational training infrastructure.
Mr. Gurbanov commended the professionalism of
PAF personnel and praised the Air Force's achievements in indigenization and
advanced aerospace development. He expressed Azerbaijan’s keen interest in
deepening military-to-military ties, particularly through joint training
programs and knowledge-sharing platforms.
Highlighting the importance of bilateral
exercises, Mr. Gurbanov noted that joint training initiatives would
significantly enhance interoperability, shared learning, and professional
excellence between the two air forces. He also conveyed Azerbaijan’s desire to
collaborate in Multi-Domain Operations (MDO), citing PAF’s extensive
operational experience as a valuable resource.
He further expressed Azerbaijan’s intention to overhaul its entire military training framework—starting from the academy level—and acknowledged Pakistan Air Force as a trusted partner in supporting this transformation.

Confident in the potential of this partnership, Mr. Gurbanov affirmed that increased cooperation with the PAF would play a crucial role in modernizing the Azerbaijani Air Force and boosting its operational capabilities.
The visit of the Azerbaijani delegation to Pakistan underscores both countries’ resolve to expand their strategic partnership and reflects their shared vision for regional peace, security, and long-term stability.
