PIA to launch international flights to Uzbekistan
Pakistan International Airlines
(PIA) is set to introduce international flights to Uzbekistan, with the
involvement of private airlines to further strengthen air connectivity between
the two nations. This initiative follows directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz
Sharif, aimed at boosting trade, tourism, and cultural ties.
The announcement came after a
meeting between Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on
Industries and Production, and Uzbekistan’s Minister for Tourism, Umid Shadiev,
who was accompanied by Uzbek Ambassador to Pakistan, Alisher Tukhtaev. The
discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in tourism, cultural
exchange, and the preservation of shared heritage.

Khan emphasized Pakistan's
commitment to strengthening tourism ties with Uzbekistan, aligning with Prime
Minister Sharif’s vision of fostering people-to-people connections and
developing projects to increase tourism and cultural exchanges. The goal is to
unlock the untapped potential of Central Asia for mutual economic and cultural
growth.
Shadiev highlighted the growing
collaboration between the two countries, citing the successful signing of
multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). He stressed the importance of
mutual cooperation in benefiting the people of both nations.
Khan further underscored the
critical role of tourism in driving economic growth and exports. Beyond PIA’s
international flights, private airlines will also play a key role in boosting
trade and tourism. Efforts are underway to streamline travel procedures,
including facilitating easier visa access, to encourage people-to-people
