EU team to train Pakistan CAA officials for the first time
For the first time, a delegation
from European civil aviation authorities will visit Pakistan next week to
provide specialized training to officials of the Pakistan Civil Aviation
Authority (CAA).
According to a CAA spokesperson, the
two-member EU team will conduct training sessions focused on Explosive Trace
Detection (ETD) and Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD) in accordance with European
aviation security standards.
The training will take place at Islamabad
International Airport.

The ETD training will cover the use
of high-tech equipment designed to detect trace amounts of explosives in
airport environments. Meanwhile, the EDD program will train both canines and
their handlers to identify explosive materials through scent.
Both ETD and EDD techniques are
critical components of modern aviation security frameworks, playing a vital
role in preventing the smuggling of explosives via air travel.

The initiative comes amid ongoing
efforts to enhance Pakistan’s aviation safety and security infrastructure. It
follows concerns raised last year by a high-level inquiry, which identified
significant irregularities in the pilot examination system. The Pakistan Civil
Aviation Authority had informed the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority
(PPRA) of the findings in July 2024.
